The idea of this blog is to share ideas for using hand-made pots to serve good food.

Eating with friends and family is one of life’s greatest pleasures. I hope to show how the warmth and character of hand made ceramics can really enhance the pleasure of cooking, serving and eating food.

This blog will include pots from other potters as well as my own and recipes for the food which I enjoy, hoping that you will like it too.

First Post

This is one of my rectangular platters.  I chose it to show how I have used it in two different ways. See the blog header for the savoury platter.
I find large platters incredibly useful when friends come round for a meal.  The pot does the work of making a few simple ingredients have a 'wow' factor.
A bed of salad leaves topped with smoked salmon, cold meats or meze type snacks makes a good starter or simple lunch.
The fruit platter is also a good stand-by dessert and can be served with cream, yoghurt or ice-cream on the side and perhaps some tuiles or shortbread biscuits.  The whole thing can be prepared in minutes - a bed of peeled and sliced oranges topped with whatever is available.  In winter some dried fruits, plumped up and soaked in brandy or liqueur with a scattering of toasted almond flakes would make a good topping.

At Christmas we had our 'Christmas Dinner' in the evening, so for lunch I put together this platter in a few minutes and served it with some warm bread rolls.  It looked suitably festive and special, thanks to a large plate which I have on display in my kitchen.  One of a number of plates and bowls which make a good wall decoration when not in use.
